Fieldstone mansion overlooking the Connecticut River was built in 1919 as a private home of actor William Gillette, famous portrayer of Sherlock Holmes. The castle has a unique interior and garden. Call for times and days. A picnic area is available.

Chamard Vineyards
Chamard is a 20-acre vineyard situated along the Connecticut River. The Vineyard has produced a number of award-winning wines. They are open year round for free tours. Call for times.

Here you can take a 12-mile trip along the Connecticut River, that connects to riverboat excursion that takes travelers down the river.

Mystic Seaport
Mystic is a world-famous indoor & outdoor maritime museum that tells the story of America and the sea. Here you can board historic ships, visit period homes, and watch working crafts people in the re-created 19th century village. Some events seasonal. They are closed on Christmas Day.

Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration
Here you'll find over 3,500 sea life specimens in 50 exhibits. The Aquarium includes Seal Island, a 2.5 acre outdoor exhibit with four species of seals and sea lions, the Penguin Pavilion, and dolphin & beluga whale demonstrations that take place daily in Marine Theater. Call for special events.

Foxwoods High Stakes Bingo & Casino
Less than an hour from the hotel, this world-class gambling facility is the largest casino in the world. Here you will find thousands of slot machines, hundreds of gaming tables, keno, bingo, poker, and race book. New London Ferry
One ferry takes passenger and autos back and forth between New London, CT, and Block Island, RI, from mid-June until mid-September. The crossing time takes about 2 hours. The other travels between New London, CT, and Orient Point, NY, during the summer months. The crossing takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Goodspeed Opera House
Built in 1876, the Goodspeed is a national historic landmark. Situated on the Connecticut River, the theater offers a variety of musicals, some old, some on the way to Broadway!

State Parks and Walking Trails

Hammonasset Beach State Park
Madison. Located on Boston Post Road, about 3 miles east of hotel. This beautiful State Park is great for swimming, walking, biking, running, camping, jogging, bird watching, beach walks, kite flying, and rollerblading. Meigs Point Nature Center is open year round. The park is open until sunset. Entrance fee in summer.

Chatfield Hollow State Park
Killingworth. Take Route 79 north to Route 80 east about 5 miles, park entrance on left. Beautiful lake with hiking trails, fishing, walking, rollerblading, swamp walk. Entrance fee during summer months.

Middle Beach Road Trail
This is the very best route around for the runner, jogger, walker, and it starts right here at The Madison Beach Hotel. It begins at Middle Beach Road West, which is the first right as you leave our rear parking area. Follow Middle Beach West to the stop sign, turn right at the Madison Beach Club. Continue along the water, enjoying the sites as you go. If you run to the end, you will reach Waterbury Avenue and you will have traveled approximately 2.5 miles. Remember, it's 2.5 miles back.
